Abstract
The goal of this dissertation is to examine the recovery of spiritual formation through family therapy of the Christian family who has dysfunctional problems. To be specific, the goals are the following (1) to find the reasons and solutions of troubled families by the involvement of churches because most churches have ignored the focus on family relationships for the sake of the outward growth since long ago. (2) To research about the complementarities of family therapy and spiritual formation. In view of psychology, most therapists do not deal with the spiritual approach during their counseling sessions. On the contrary, traditional churches usually ignore the psychological methods as well. (3) To design a church wellness program through the family therapy that is collaborated with spiritual practice. It emphasizes a positive influence of a healthy family towards the wellness of church and society. The research method of this study uses the integrative approach of psychology and theology, so that dysfunctional families might overcome it through family therapy and spiritual direction. It currently reflects a new trend of pastoral counseling that acknowledges a complementary of two fields despite someone who disagrees with it. In the integrating view, it will contribute to the wellness of a relationship with God, and troubled family, which Jesus taught in the New Testament.
